Our Historical Barn

Bearwood Event Barn is located on a historic century-old farm property in Olmsted County, having been constructed by the Ramthun Brothers in 1917, who built other famous barns in the area including the Mayowood Stone Barn and the Mary Knoll Barns, originally owned by the Sisters of St. Francis, of St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

The barn was originally operated for dairy cows on a large family farm, that also had crops and horses. The bricks used for the foundation are original and present today. The structural integrity is impeccable, being over 100 years old! The bricks were made of porcelain, or glazed, which in the early 1900’s, cost 1-2 cents more per brick than limestone, which was the standard. This was considered a significant cost back then, but clearly has withstood the test of time.

The original galvanized hardware, wooden beams and hay mound rack and ropes have also been preserved and left in place to maintain the historic integrity.

Our historical barn renovation and construction of adjacent ballroom was completed in the Spring of 2019. Bearwood is owned and operated by two local families.
